EFETS: Designing an Efficient and Fair Energy Transition with New Energy Sources

[Call: Knowledge Generation Projects 2025 – Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities]

This is a research project that addresses the dual challenge of improving the efficiency of energy markets while ensuring a fair and inclusive energy transition. The project focuses on the integration of emerging energy vectors, including offshore wind, renewable hydrogen, biomethane and forest biomass, together with new market mechanisms and digital certification tools that can accelerate decarbonisation and strengthen industrial competitiveness. In parallel, it examines how the transition affects vulnerable households, energy affordability and exposure to climate-related risks, using advanced analytical tools such as artificial intelligence, geospatial analysis and blockchain-based certification systems.

The project will generate evidence to support the design of more resilient, transparent and socially equitable energy systems. Particular attention is paid to renewable gas adoption by industry, locational pricing mechanisms, energy poverty, urban heat islands, and the impacts of heatwaves on electricity markets and vulnerable consumers. By combining technological innovation, market design and social impact assessment, the project aims to contribute to a more efficient and fair energy transition
